7th The New Orleans Jazz Bandits
Always an AJC favourite, this band began more than 7 decades ago under legendary trombonist Colin Kingwell. Now ably fronted by their spiritual leader Ron Rumbol (of Vintage Excelsior fame) and MC'd by sprightly cornetist Allen Beechey (of the eponymous Bright Stars of Jazz), this band promises an evening of energetic New Orleans tunes. Heather Birt's double bass and Malc Murphy's legendary drumming join Tim Wake's banjo to drive the rhythm section, with Rob Pearce on trombone completing the front line. Not one to miss!
14th New Orleans Bump
New Orleans Bump play lively, happy jazz, which is always well received by the audience. Led by David Wood on reeds, the five piece band features Sarah Thatcher on banjo and guitar, Spike Kennedy on the double bass, and Dave Andrews on drums. Stan Stephens usually delights us with some vocals and of course, lovely trombone playing.
21st The Savoy Super Six
Carrying on the legacy of Barry Palser, who originated the band, Pete Rudeforth and his trumpet lead Savoy Super Six, comprised of Tim Huskisson on the reeds,Colin Graham's trombone, John Stuart Banjo and guitar, Murray Salmon on the double bass, and John Ellmer on the drums
28th The Dixie Swing Kings
The Dixieland Swing Kings are a very accomplished band formed from experienced musicians who really swing! This ensemble has the full repertoire of all your favourite traditional jazz numbers.
